In which airport should I fly into?

The Kilimanjaro Airport (KIA) is the closest airport to Moshi.

How do I get from Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi?

On arrival from Germany you will have to pay 50 US$ (or 50 €) for the entry visa.

After collecting your luggage you will find taxis outside of the airport building who can take you to Moshi (45km distance, 40 min away, price around 50US$). Cheaper than taxis are the shuttle busses from the domestic airlines but they do not go on a regular basis. For the transport from Moshi back to the airport remember the place of departure of the bus: they start from the offices of the domestic airlines close to Moshi's clocktower. To book a taxi in advance is also possible. Our local coordinator will be happy to help you on that matter.

Where do I start my hike?

The Friendship Trail starts at the Rebmann memorial in Kalali near Machame. However, it is highly advisable to spend at least one night in Moshi before starting your trail in order to change money, buying a local sim-card for your mobile phone, settle in, get last preparations sorted for the hike and to become acclimatised. You can take the local Data-Dala mini bus or a taxi to get there. Our local coordinator is more than happy to help you organise your transportation.

How can I hike just parts of the trail?

It is possible to hike just parts of the trail or connect different parts of the trail with motorised forms of transportation.

You can either take a Dala-Dala mini bus, often more than full, or a Piki-Piki motorbike. The Piki-Piki driver should be known to the guide or host. The easiest and most comfortable way of transportation, however not the cheapest, is a taxi with a fixed price rate, your guide or one of the local coordinators will help you with the organisation.
